Look for a pair of giant riveted doors along quiet Mercaderes Street to locate the Conde de Villanueva, where a cool hall, lobby and reception area await inside. Don’t be surprised if you’re greeted by a colorful king peacock strutting his stuff in the leafy central patio, where tropical plants keep things shady.

Up the stairs, with their characteristic green wooden banisters, is where the hotel’s secret is kept: here on the mezzanine, you’ll find one of the most prominent cigar shops (Casa Del Habano) in town. A comfortably pleasant lounge invites you to smoke an artisanal cigar, manufactured by the highly-skilled on-site «torcedor» (cigar roller). Whether you’re a long-time enthusiast after a good smoke or just looking for one of the world’s best cigars as a souvenir, this shop, with their knowledgeable staff, can help.
